Title from part of caption title on leaf 1 recto.; Ms. codex.; Manuscript transcribed about 1856 for the ethnographer E.G. Squier from a codex in the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris, from the original manuscript, compiled in 1605 by Alonso Urbano.; The original manuscript is accompanied by a dictionary of words in Otomí, Nahuatl, and Spanish but this has been omitted in this present transcription. For a complete reprint of the original 1605 manuscipt, please see Arte breve de la lengua otomí y vocabulario trilingüe, edited by René Acuña, published in Mexico City, 1990.; The present manuscript is written in brown ink and contains a grammar, with sections on the Otomí alphabet, nouns, numerals, pronouns, verbs, gerunds, prepositions, and conjunctions. There is also a short glossary of kinship terminology.
