General Note:
Authorship from Sabin, Ford, Butterfield and Adams.; Translation of: The green box of Monsieur de Sartine, found at Mademoiselle du The's lodgings. London, 1779.; A new edition, printed on the continent according to Butterfield, not in England, as other sources claim. Pages [1] to 68 are textually identical to the original edition in French, The Hague, 1779, but some minor typographical differences indicate that the type for this edition was set anew, but closely following that of the original edition. Pages 69-75 present a different text, replacing the text given on p. 69-70 of the original edition, while the text on p. 76 is identical with that on p. 71 of the previous edition. As in the original edition, the title page line "Monsieur de Sartine," is printed in red ink.; A political satire and bibliographical hoax, purporting to be secret papers found. For details see under the original edition, The Hague, 1779.; Title surrounded by an ornamental frame, identical to that of the original edition.; Signatures: pi² B-K⁴ L² (pi1 verso, pi2 verso, B3 verso blank); Cf. Barber, G. "Catchwords and press figures at home and abroad," The Book Collector 9: p. 301-307. 1960.
