Ms. codex.; Title supplied by cataloguer and from title of ms. transcription of larger, original deed housed in JCB bibliographical file.; Text of dead reads: Know all men, that I Myantonomy, cheefe sachem of the Nanheygansett have sold unto the persons heare named, one parsell of lands with all the rights and privileges theroff whatsoever lyinge uppon the west syde of that part of the sea called Sowhanes Bay, from Copassanatuxett, over against a little island in the sayd bay, being the north bounds, and the outmost point that neck of land called Shawhomet; beinge the south bounds ffrom the sea shoare of each boundary uppon a straight lyne westward twentie miles: I say I have truely sould this parsell of land above sayde, the proportion whereof is according to the mapp under written or drawne, being the forme of it, onto Randall Houlden, John Greene, John Wickes, Ffrancis Weston, Samuell Gorton, Richard Waterman, John Warner, Richard Carder, Sampson Shotten, Robert Potter, William Wuddall ffor one hundredth and fortie ffathom of wampumpeage, I say I have sould it, and possession of it given unto the men, above sayd, with the ffree and joynt consent of the present inhabitants being natives, as it appeares by their hands hereunto annexed. Dated ye twelfth day of January 1642. Beinge enacted oppon the above sayd parsell of land un the presence off sachem of Shawhomett. Pum homm Myantonomy [with his bow and arrow seal] Jano [bird] his marke Totanomans his mark [gun?] John Greene, junr.; Deed of Warwick is on p. [1], followed by hand drawn map, with commentary, of the area sold on p. [2], followed by practice of the beginning sentence of the deed on p. [3], which is backed with thicker paper and is blank on p. [4]; Canonicus, uncle of chief sachem Miantonomo, deeded to Roger Williams land that would become Providence Plantations; here Miantonomo, sells the land that would become Warwick to Samuel Gorton and others.
