"Don José Severino Boloña, ha acudido à la regencia del reyno, exponiendo la posesion en que se hallava su padre D. Esteban, de imprimir por espacio de treinta años, lo que occuria en las oficinas de la Hacienda publica de esa isla ...", p. [1], 3rd count, is dated and signed: Isla de Leon 2 de noviembre de 1813.=Manuel Lopez de Araujo.=Sr. Intendente de la Habana. It is further certified below: Habana 26 de noviembre de 1814.=Pedro Carambot.; In this document, Esteban José Boloña, who had set up a printing press in Havana in 1776, attempted to secure an official monopoly of government printing. After a ten year ban on printing in Cuba, Esteban José Boloña was the first to be granted permission to establish a press in Havana, but others followed. This meritos y servicios described Boloña's honorable service as printer for the Navy and the tobacco revenue office, and stated that he produced 300 copies of a clandestine newspaper during the regency of Napoleon I. It then requested that the competing printing licenses of José Soler and José Arazoza be rescinded.; Signatures: [1]₁ ([1]₁ verso blank) 2² (2₂ missigned 2) 3² [4]² chi1.; Engraved printer's device on title page; initial.
