General Note:
First printed in Boston : Printed by order of the town of Boston, and sold by Edes and Gill, in Queen-Street, and T. & J. Fleet, in Cornhill, 1770 (Adams, T.R. Brit. pamphlets, 70-5a and Adams, T.R. Amer. pamphlets, 75a); Date of publication supplied by Adams.; A short narrative of the horrid massacre in Boston was drawn up by a committee consisting of James Bowdoin, Joseph Warren, and Samuel Pemberton near the month of April 1770, who were appointed by the town meeting in Boston on March 12, 1770. A number of issues and permutations of this title exist. For a complete detailed analysis see Adams, T.R. Brit. pamphlets 70-5 and Adams, T.R. Amer. pamphlets, 75.; Charles Lucas, a member of Parliament from Dublin, was one of the people in England selected to receive a copy of the second Boston : Printed by order of the town of Boston, and sold by Edes and Gill, in Queen-Street, and T. & J. Fleet, in Cornhill, 1770 issue (Adams, T.R. Brit. pamphlets, 70-5b and Adams, T.R. Amer. pamphlets, 75b). The abridgement of 'A short narrative of the horrid massacre in Boston' is preceded by the resolution of the town of Boston to send Lucas a copy and by their letter to him dated the 22nd and 23rd of March, 1770. Cf. Adams.; "Appendix containing the several depositions referred to in the preceeding narrative, entire; and also the substance of other depositions relative to the subject of it": p. [28]-55; here the Appendix reprints only 54 of the original 96 depositions, some in shortened form.; Certifications of authenticity: p. 55-56.; Signatures: A-C⁸ ([A]1 verso blank) D⁴
