notes:
The Goyana people were found in the area of the Rio Grande do Sul. At Debret's time, they were only the remainder of a large nation. They succeeded as transporters of people in their province. Text states that in this image, a group of Goyanas has served as guides to a European and his slave who will be further transported by canoe. Lithographer is probably Charles Etienne Pierre Motte (French printmaker and draftsman, 1785-1836).
