notes:
Tomochachi assisted General Oglethorpe in establishing the British colony in Georgia. He accompanied Gen. Oglethorpe on a trip to London in 1734 where his portrait was painted by William Verelst (now at Winterthur Museum?). This image is one of only a few life portraits created in the 18th century and one of only two relating to southern native American tribes of North America.
