Antoine-Simon le Page du Pratz was one of 800 Frenchmen who went to Louisiana under the entrepreneurial colonization scheme organized by John Law and the Company of the West. When the Company of the West was dissolved as a result of the Natchez Massacre of 1729, Le Page du Pratz returned to France. Fifteen years later he published the first account of Louisiana.
