Major General Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington in Yorktown, Virginia, in October 1781 effectively ending the American Revolution. From 1786 to 1793, he was Governor General of India where he enacted reforms to rid the Indian government of widespread corruption. He arrived back in England in 1794.
