notes:
Hoping to increase trade with North America, Captain Martin [here called Matthew] Pring and William Brown sailed from Bristol, England, in the Speedwell and Discoverer in 1603. The incident shown here probably took place at Truro on Cape Cod while the Englishmen were looking for sassafras. Text describes how the native Americans feared the large mastiff dogs, but were charmed enough by the music to dance.Volume four contains an account of the British discoveries in America.
