Sea urchins are members of the class Echinoidea. Starfish are also called sea stars and belong to the class Asteroidea. "Pannache de mer" is probably a sea fan, a member of the genus Gorgonia, a form of coral. "Arbre de mer" may be a form of brown algae or a coral. Charles de Rochefort was pastor of the French Protestant Church at Rotterdam and resided for several years in the West Indies. Cf. Labat, Nouveau voyage aux isles de l'Amerique ... Paris, 1742 (#35892-78) for the panache de mer.
