This is the fruit or drupe of Cocos nucifera, the coconut (or cocoanut) palm tree. It is found throughout the tropical world. Charles de Rochefort was pastor of the French Protestant Church at Rotterdam and resided for several years in the West Indies. Cf. Labat, Nouveau voyage aux isles de l'Amerique ...
