Text discusses the chief of the Timucua Indians, Outina, who asked René de Laudonnière for aid against his enemies. Outina asked a priest to predict their chances against the enemy. The priest knelt on a European shield which is surrounded with symbols and went into a trance. At the end he reported on the position and strength of the enemy.This image derived from Theodor de Bry, America, part 2, plate 12, and follows the special title page for Verscheyde scheeps-togten na Florida, door Pontius, Ribald, Laudonniere, Gourgues en andere: Gedaan Anno 1562 ... , Leiden, 1706.This collection of voyages consists of 127 parts, each having a special title page, separate pagination, and register. The voyages covering the period from 1246 to 1696 are arranged chronologically.
