Text describes Hans Staden meeting a ship from the Portuguese at Brickioka in present-day Brazil. Staden, not wanting his captors to think he was Portuguese, said he had a French brother on board. The natives however did not let him aboard the ship.This image is similar to one found in Hans Staden, Warhaftige Historia ..., Marburg, 1557. It follows the special title page for Hans Staden, De voorname Scheeps-togten van Jan Staden van Homburg in Hessen, na Brazil ... , Leiden, 1706. This collection of voyages consists of 127 parts, each having a special title page, separate pagination, and register. The voyages covering the period from 1246 to 1696 are arranged chronologically.
