notes:
The text describes the feasts prepared several times a year by the Timucua Indians. The chief cook would oversee the cooking while others prepared the grain and herbs for the meal. When the natives crossed a stream the men would tie the quivers on their head with their hair to keep the arrows dry. This image derived from Theodor de Bry, America, part 2, plates 27 & 28, and follows the special title page for Verscheyde scheeps-togten na Florida, door Pontius, Ribald, Laudonniere, Gourgues en andere: Gedaan Anno 1562 ... , Leiden, 1706. This collection of voyages consists of 127 parts, each having a special title page, separate pagination, and register. The voyages covering the period from 1246 to 1696 are arranged chronologically.
