notes:
Text describes the bird as nine inches long and colored grey, brown, and white. This book is a series of letters written by William Beresford, a Quaker, who sailed on a ship owned by a group of merchants who formed a company to participate in fur trading on the northwestern North American coast. The company employed two veterans of Captain James Cook's third voyage. Nathaniel Portlock (master's mate aboard the Discovery) was appointed captain of the King George and commander of the expedition. George Dixon (armorer on the Discovery) commanded the smaller Queen Charlotte.
