notes:
Text states that native Americans can make excellent servants and that the future of Brazil must include the mixing of the native and European races. A cabocle or caboclo is now considered to be a person of mixed native American Brazilian and European descent, hence a mestizo. The lithographs in this book were made from drawings made by Debret during his fifteen-year residence (1816-1831) in Brazil.Lithographer is probably Charles Etienne Pierre Motte (French printmaker and draftsman, 1785-1836).Image placed horizontally on page.
