notes:
The image in Figure 135 is derived from drawings, frequently copied, of an Unalaska man, woman, and child who had been drawn by an artist on James Cook's expedition. Cook reached Unalaska in July 1778. Gottlieb Tobias Wilhelm (1758-1811) was a Bavarian clergyman and naturalist in Augsburg. This book, an encyclopedic overview representing scientific knowledge of the time, included mankind in its delineation of natural history.
