Diego de Orozco, Bernardo de Cisneros, Juan del Valle, and Luís de Alavés were martyred in northwestern Mexico during the armed uprising of the Tepehuanes in 1616.The author, Mathias Tanner from Pilsen, Bohemia, entered the Society of Jesus in 1646, spent most of his life in Prague, and became rector of the Colegio and Imperial University.
