notes:
Colonel Jacque or Colonel Jack was a convicted pickpocket in England, who believed himself born a gentleman, but sent to Virginia as an indentured servant, and eventually became a slave owner and landowner. This book, A history of the lives and exploits of the most remarkable pirates, is often attributed to Daniel Defoe; the story of Col. Jacque was published by Defoe as The history and remarkable life of the truly honorable Colonel Jacque in 1722.
