notes:
The text describes the clothing of the women being made of brightly-colored striped wool. They wore linen cloths which they wrapped around their heads to show respect or for attending church. Vecellio's popular book on costumes included not only the dress of his native Venice, but clothing from ancient times and from the Americas along with social commentary about the illustrated people and their attire. The woodcuts for this book were created by Christoph Krieger.Image title taken from text.
