notes:
The plates (all in volume four) are engraved by one of the Tardieu family of printmakers and are based on the first English edition of 1796. The plates in the English edition are based on Stedman's own watercolors. The two maps in this edition do not appear to have been included in the original English edition. The French translation was made by P. F. Henry and is of interest, because a supplement of more than 200 pages written by C. Lescallier, former Governor of French Guiana, was added at the request of the publisher, Buisson.
