notes:
Doña Marina or Malinche (in Nahuatl, Malintzin) served as Cortés's translator, negotiator, and cultural mediator from 1519 to 1526. For the probable source of this image, cf. 34575-2. It has been re-engraved in reverse. Engraver is probably Jean Charles Baquoy, 1721-1777, and the artist is probably Charles-Nicolas Cochin II, 1715-1790.
