Jan Erasmus Reining was a Dutch pirate who, under the command of Jacob Binckes, defended the island of Tobago in February 1677 from an attack by the French privateer, Jean d'Estree. A year later, d'Estree successfully captured the island and Reining escaped to Curaçao. Image title taken from marginal gloss.
