notes:
The Spanish were uneasy about an uprising by Natives as long as Atahualpa (or Atabalipa) remained alive. In 1533, on a trumped-up charge of conspiracy, the Inca king was found guilty and sentenced to death by strangulation. The execution was performed by Black slaves under orders from the Spanish. This work was published by Theodor de Bry and is derived from the third part of Girolamo Benzoni, Historia del mondo nuovo, Venice, 1565. Theodor de Bry's America. Pt. 6. German. Imprint information from colophon.
