Description:
Cosmographer or astrologer writes in a notebook while leaning on a globe showing Europe, Africa and America. In the distance are ships with sun, moon, windheads. Decorative elements include navigational instruments such as dividers, astroblabe, hour glass, and quadrant, lute, music, and astrological figures such as Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Mars, and Jove [Jupiter].

Sacro Bosco's works on astronomy drew heavily on the classical and Arabic learning newly rediscovered by Europeans during the early thirteenth century. This work was the most famous of his books and was a basic account of spherical geometry.
