notes:
The forts at El Morro and La Punta are situated across from each other at the mouth of the harbor of Havana. El Morro, the larger fort, and La Punta were built beginning in 1589 by the same Italian military engineer, Juan Bautista Antonelli. The construction of the two forts made Havana the safest port in the Caribbean during the seventeenth century.
