notes:
This image shows how slaves might have been carried across the Atlantic from Africa. The diagram was originally created by English abolitionists and soon became an icon of the Africans' ordeal on the Middle Passage. This pamphlet by Clarkson, one of England's leading abolitionists, is the second pamphlet in volume 19 of a multi-volume work under the title of Melanges sur l'Amerique.
