George Robertson painted a series of idealized views of Jamaica for his patron, William Beckford, including three which featured Beckford's plantation in Jamaica. Beckford's great wealth derived from his sugar plantations in Jamaica. Boydell commisioned various artists to create copperplates for engravings and developed a lucrative print-selling trade.
