notes:
The text describes the six or seven small islands known as the Caymans which are south of Cuba and are distinguished by the dangerous shoals to be found among them. "La Sonde," or the Sound of Mexico, is described as a very dangerous place with only a narrow passage through which ships may pass. The manuscript, attributed to Champlain, describes his voyage sailing with a Spanish fleet to the Caribbean in 1599 to 1600.
