notes:
This bird, a kingfisher of some variety, was included in a pamplet with the title, "Beschryving van den een verwonderbaar fraai Amerikaansch ys-vogeltje ... Koomende uit ... Berbice," Amsterdam, 1768. Arnout Vosmaer was director of the menageries founded in 1756 when the widow of William IV bought Vosmaer's collection. Many rare species were imported from places like Borneo, the Philippines, Surinam, South-Africa and Japan. Between 1766 and 1778 Vosmaer wrote separate pamphlets describing each rare animal. Each description was accompanied by a handcolored print, usually made by Simon Fokke. Altogether 31 parts were published with 33 engravings. Image information taken from title page of each pamphlet.
