notes:
This animal, Alouatta seniculus, was included in a pamplet with the title, "Beschryving van eene zeldzaame Amerikaansche nog niet bescreeven slinger-aap-soort," Amsterdam, 1770. Arnout Vosmaer was director of the menageries founded in 1756 when the widow of William IV bought Vosmaer's collection. Many rare species were imported from places like Borneo, the Philippines, Surinam, South Africa and Japan. Between 1766 and 1778 Vosmaer wrote separate pamphlets describing each rare animal. Each description was accompanied by a handcolored print, usually made by Simon Fokke after a design of Aert Schouman. Altogether 31 parts were published with 33 engravings. Image information taken from title page of each pamphlet.
