notes:
This book was meant to be an extract of the reports of Father Manuel Sobreviela (who explored the Huallaga River from 1787 to 1790) and Narciso Girbal y Barcelo (who explored the Marañon and Ucayali rivers in 1791), which appeared in El Mercurio peruano, a newspaper begun in Lima in 1791. However, the compiler was so unfamiliar with Spanish that the translation is suspect.
