notes:
Text describes a 'heyrat," or irara, whose name comes from the Tupi meaning "true honey-eater." The tayra, scientific name: Eira barbara, is a weasel that observes the behavior of flies around honey, climbs the trees where the honey is, and eats the honey undisturbed by the bees. Thevet, a Franciscan monk, traveled to Brazil with Nicolas Durand, chevalier de Villegagnon, stayed ten weeks, and wrote his book from his own observations and those of others.
