Investment schemes. [The dying bubble-lord in the bosom of Madame Compagnie.] The Bubble Lord, John Law, collapsed on the ground and is surrounded by a scolding woman and others who weep and gesticulate. This print was repurposed from one originally used to illustrate the distress of Louis XIV having lost the battle of Ramillies, May 12, 1706. In this print, the artist's name has been removed along with other inscriptions above the heads of the two men on the left. Madame Compagnie replaces Madame de Maintenon from the original print.
