Narrative description:
Investment schemes. [The eclipse of the southern sun puts man a place in darkness, as occasioned by the unpolitic moon] [The active bellows and the spirit of Erasmus, leaving the city where he was born to visit the three cities of Holland not affected by share-trading.] An obelisk decorated with the coat of arms of Amsterdam, Haarlem, and Leiden stands on a sea shore. Two men stand before it, one Mercury with his winged hat and shoes and another a man who represents the spirit of Eramus in the habit of a pilgrim with a seashell on his hat. Surrounding them are men falling off a cliff, a winged ship, a man holding keys and pointing to a treasure chest of cabbages with a spade. a drowning man, a monkey or ape blowing on a fire, a woman representing Fraud with a mousetrap on her head and using a bellows to blow into a gentleman who holds a fishing line and throws shares or papers into the wind. Also includes a bat, a windmill, a cupid paying a horn, and a swan.
