Narrative description:
Investment schemes. [Title print of the stockshop or court of Quinquempoix.] View of the stock shop of Quinquenpoix [Quinquempoix ] or John Law. A gentleman in an elaborate wig kneels before a woman. Angels shoot arrows at a single eye in the heavens. Surrounded by vignettes which include a native American with an alligator, a woman surrounded by windheads who gives bubbles to native Americans in feathered headdresses, a gentleman who hair is pulled by devils who are also fleecing him, and Neptune with a ship. At the bottom a merchant counts his bags of money. Mercury with his caduceus and winged hat and Neptune with his trident point to the fanciful oval. Quinquempoix is the name of a street in [Amsterdam] which had the headquarters of the Compagnie des Indes and was associated with John Law.
