Geographical description:
Map of the Atlantic Ocean shows Spain and parts of Ireland, England, France; shows the island chains of the Azores, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde; the parts of North America which are shown are the northeast cost of America from Newfoundland and Labrador in the north to Florida, the Greater and Lesser Antilles, the Gulf of Mexico, part of Central America and to the Equator in South America. Also includes many inset maps. Inset map "Carta particular de la Sonda de Campeche" appears on upper left hand corner and shows the Gulf of Campeche and part of the Yucatan. Inset map "Plano del fondeadero de Vera Cruz" appears on middle of left hand side of map and shows the city of Veracruz, and the island of San Juan de Ulúa opposite with the fortress; this map has scale given in nautical miles and has north facing to the upper left. Inset map "Plano de la entrada de la Havana" appears on lower part of map and shows the entrance to Havana Bay with the city of Havana on one side and the Casa Blanca, la Cabana, and El Morro on the other; this map has scale given in miles and has north facing to the lower right. Inset map "Carta particular de las costas y mar de Cadiz" appears on lower right hand corner and shows the city of Cadíz in Spain with the Bay; on this map north is not indicated but should be facing the bottom. Phillips lists this map as no. 11 in Atlas maritimo español, Madrid: Dirección de hidrografíca, Madrid, 1789-1814, and dates it 1813. Relief shown pictorially. Depth indicated by soundings.
