Geographical description:
Map of Canada. Delineates primarily the Saint Lawrence River from Isle aux Coudres (below Québec) to Lake Ontario, its tributaries especially around Montreal, and the Rivière Chambly and Lake Champlain and part of Lake George; with the headwaters of the Kennebec, Connecticut, and Hudson rivers. Inscribed to "Major General John Burgoyne." "Colonel Arnold's Rout in 1775" is marked along the River Chaudière, on the way down to Québec. Title in elaborate vignette of woods, hills, and waterfalls, with trading in beaver pelts in progress, at upper left. Between Lake Carleton on the border with New England, and the River St. François, a road is tentatively marked, but its designation "New road proposed from Connecticut River to River St. Francis," present in the state, has been deleted. A "Saw Mill" has been entered and named west of Ticonderoga, at the heads of Lake George. Where the Oswegache River joins the St. Lawrence, "properly Pt. Presentation" has been inserted between "Pt. Patterson" and "Ft. de la Galette" (now Ogdensburg, N.Y.) No prime meridian shown. Expressed in two scales, of "British statute miles" and "Canadian leagues," below the title

Cartobibliographic notes:
A new state. At upper right center a paragraph of "Remarks" has been inserted, referring to the Rivers Chaudière, Kennebec, and St. François and citing surveys by Samuel Holland and Edward Howard, specified in Thomas Pownall's Topographical description (London, 1776). At left, between the scales under the title, and the 45th parallel, is Faden's dedication of the map to Major-General John Burgoyne, at that time appointed to command the northern army which intended to invade New York and Canada. Also new in this state is a large tabulation in the lower right corner, entitled "Winter quarters of the King's Army in Canada, 1776," which was removed from the map's later edition
