Cartobibliographic notes:
The two hemispheres created by Tramezino used "Bacon's Meridian Projection" to resolve the problem of portraying a sphere on a flat surface. Roger Bacon devised this projection in the thirteenth century, well before the world was commonly known to be spherical. This map stands on its own as a masterpiece of Renaissance cartography without any obvious source or imitators.
