Historical notes:
The British General James Wolfe first attempted to attack the French at Quebec City from the front and was rebuffed. Hearing of a narrow path which led up to the Plains of Abraham above the town, he led his troops up at night. The brief battle which ensued cost both generals their lives and the French their foothold in North America.Written by a senior officer with the 35th Regiment (Royal Sussex), this journal was probably the work of Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Fletcher. The first eight leaves of this journal have been lost, making identification of the author uncertain, but Fletcher was the only senior officer associated with the regiment at this time who could have written the journal.
