Historical notes:
Located at present-day town of Saint John's in New Brunswick, Fort Frederick was first built by the French and named Fort LaTour, the first French settlement in New Brunswick. It was captured by the English in 1758 and renamed.Written by a senior officer with the 35th Regiment (Royal Sussex), this journal was probably the work of Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Fletcher. The first eight leaves of this journal have been lost, making identification of the author uncertain, but Fletcher was the only senior officer associated with the regiment at this time who could have written the journal.
