The English pilot was printed in five books first printed in London from 1671-1720 and they form a set only by virtue of the general title. Part four, relating to North American and West Indian navigation, was first printed in London, 1689.;The text is by William Fisher while the maps are largely the work of John Thornton.;"A new and correct chart shewing the variations of the compass in the western & southern oceans as observed in ye year 1700 by His Ma[jes]ties command by Edm. Halley", double folded chart with two pages of explanatory text pasted onto either side, is bound before the title page, and is engraved by John Harris. The two columns of text on either side by Edmond Halley is entitled "The description and uses of a new and correct sea-chart of the western and southern oceon, shewing the variation of the compass". Although this map is undated, according the British Book Trade Index online, Richard Mount was trading in London at this address from 1677-1722, the year of his death.;Maps entitled "Harbour Grace, part of New-Foundland", "Bay Bulls, part of New-Found-Land" and "Cattalina Harbor, part of New=Found-Land" and "Port Bonavista, part of New-Found-Land", single maps bound between pages 14 and 15 and printed on recto and verso in two plates.;Relief shown pictorially on a few maps.;Depths indicated by soundings.;Includes nautical charts with rhumb lines. Also contains parallel views.;Signatures: [A]² ([A]1 verso blank) B-R².;Title page printed in red and black; lion and unicorn seal of Great Britain on title page.
