Attributed to Increase Mather by Holmes.; What is evidently a first draft of the above, containing about one-half of the text, is among the Hutchinson papers in possession of the Massachusetts Historical Society, and was printed in its Collections, 3rd series, volume 1, page 93-101. The handwriting is not that of Mather.; The "Brief relation" included in addition the 12th article of the Declaration of the gentlemen, merchants and inhabitants of Boston, Apr. 18, 1689 on pages 10-12 is believed to have been written by Increase Mather.; "To Her Royal Hignness the Princess of Orange, &c.", pages 13-15, is dated and signed: Hague the first of February, 1689. S.N. Abraham Kick.; Pages 15-18 contain an excerpted translation of Increase Mather's De successu evangelii apud Indos in Nova-Anglia epistola, printed in London, 1688. It was reprinted in Force's Tracts, volume 4, number 11, and Andros tracts, volume 2, pages 147-170, the latter containing a discussion of the authorship.; Signatures: A-B⁴ (A1 verso blank) C².; Bookseller's advertisements: pages [1-2], 2nd count.
