Romney painted this portrait in London when Brant visited the city with Sir William Johnson, the royal commissioner of Indian affairs in America. Lord George Germain had a box of prints of the painting made and gave them to Brant as a gift. Today the painting is in the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. This print is described as a "scratch letter proof--1st State."
