notes: 
Salvador, an important center of the lucrative sugar trade of Brazil, was a source of conflict between the Dutch and Portuguese. The Dutch had quickly subdued Portuguese resistance in May 1624 and taken over control of the town. The Portuguese regained control in one day on April 29, 1625. Letterpress text pasted below image.
