Sebastián de Aparicio leans out of a carriage to speak with a man leading another who is tied with rope at his wrists. The carriage is followed by black servants [slaves]. In the background is a square with a town government building or courthouse. Also includes people carrying trays of food, clock, and dwellings.

Here Sebastián de Aparicio grants freedom to a prisoner who is being led from a Justice Hall by paying three million pesos.Born in Spain, Sebastián de Aparicio traveled to Mexico where he made a substantial fortune building roads and the carriages or carts to carry goods on the roads. At age 70, he joined the Franciscan order and was known as the Angel of Mexico. He was beatified in 1787.
