While the Spaniards held Moctezuma [Montezuma] prisoner, the other Mexicans chose another leader and determined to drive the Spanish out of Mexico. Cortés asked Moctezuma to speak to the Mexican nobles leading the attack, but as he was doing so, the Mexicans threw stones at him. One stone hit him on the temple and proved mortal.Volume two contains an account of the conquest of Mexico by Hernán Cortés.
