In 1579 Drake sailed up the west coast of North America, challenging Spanish possessions along the way. It is uncertain exactly how far north he traveled. He named the area north of Point Loma near present-day San Diego, New Albion.Volume five contains an account of the British discoveries in America and voyages around the world.
