Text describes a freshwater fish, perhaps a Loricaria parnahyba or armored catfish, armored like an armadillo found in the Rio Janeiro. Cf. 0656-6. Thevet, a Franciscan monk, traveled to Brazil with Nicolas Durand, chevalier de Villegagnon, stayed ten weeks, and wrote his book from his own observations and those of others.
